Community-Centered Health
We understand health within the context of the community—emphasizing relationships, connection, and the environments where people live their everyday lives.
About Our Work
Good health depends on more than clinical care. It is shaped by the social, economic, and environmental conditions people experience every day. By focusing on relationships and community connections, we can prevent disease, reduce disparities, and strengthen well-being across Virginia.

School Based Health
Schools Serving as Vaccine Hubs & Access to Registered Nurses (RN) in Schools
In the 1960s, with the support of schools, local health departments, community volunteers, and PTAs, Virginia schools became hubs for mass polio vaccination campaigns. Today, vaccine access in schools is limited or unavailable, and many schools do not have access to a registered nurse (RN). We support a bill to permit the hiring of registered nurses (RNs) and a path to hiring advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) in schools, expanding access to essential health services.
Community Health Workers
Community Health Worker (CHW)
A community health worker (CHW) is a frontline public health worker and trusted member of the community. Research has shown that CHWs are uniquely qualified to address the social determinants of health. This work is essential to making progress on health disparities.
