Carpenters Union and Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy to Host Car Rally against Wage Theft on Monday, April 12th
(Richmond) The Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters and the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy will be leading a car rally with other local labor, faith and community leaders to spread the word about wage theft and the misclassification of workers in Virginia. The car rally “parade” will be in association of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America’s national “Tax Fraud Week of Action”. The Tax Fraud Week of Action is an advocacy campaign by the Carpenters Union to help educate the public and local leaders about the social and economic impacts that construction industry tax fraud, wage theft and the misclassification have on local communities.
The Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy has been a state leader in the fight against wage theft. It recently launched a website (www.wagetheftva.org) that educates workers about their rights and connects workers with attorneys and other resources to help them recover their unpaid wages.
The rally will start at 2:00 p.m. at Monroe Park and pass the newly being built Virginia General Assembly Building as well as the campus of VCU. Both the campus and the new General Assembly building have come under scrutiny from local community and labor leaders on the issues of wage theft and worker misclassification.
