The Rally
After the president’s second executive order aiming to institutionalize a Muslim ban, the International Refugee Assistance Project and HIAS, represented by the National Immigration Law Center and the American Civil Liberties Union, sued the administration in Maryland to block the ban. A federal judge issued a temporary order blocking the section of the executive order that places a 90-day ban on the entry of people from six Muslim-majority countries. The government then appealed the order and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals agreed to hear the appeal en banc, meaning all of the Fourth Circuit appellate judges will hear the case instead of the typical 3-judge panel.
On Monday, May 8, we will stand together against anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim hate, xenophobia, and racism. We aspire to make our nation a country that truly welcomes immigrants and refugees, recognizes the dignity and humanity of all people, values a diverse and inclusive society, and provides equality and due process under the law. We call on the administration to rescind the Muslim ban and the immigration executive orders, and to stop tearing families apart. This rally is part of the #NoMuslimBanEver National Week of Resistance and #AAPIsResist Month of Action.
Community leaders will speak at the rally beginning at 1:30 p.m., and the hearing will begin at 2:30 p.m. Program details to come.
