Celebrate Legislative Champion: Delegate Lashrecse Aird
on Thursday, June 6, 5:30-7 p.m. in Petersburg

The Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy (VICPP) will celebrate Delegate Lashrecse Aird (D-3rd, Petersburg) for her commitment to fighting for economic justice at a reception on June 6, 5:30 p.m. at Gillfield Baptist Church in Petersburg.

We will recognize Delegate Aird for her leadership on HB 2664, a bill that requires employers to provide paystubs to their employees. VICPP worked with Aird to build support with constituents and legislators to help pass this bill.

People often assume that all workers get a paystub, but thousands of Virginians do not. Many are cheated out of wages because they have no paystub record of how they were paid. Without a paystub it is difficult to rent an apartment, get a car loan, or enroll in social services like Medicaid. This legislation, which was signed into law on April 3, will make life easier for many Virginians. Read more about the issue here.

Benjamin Hoyne, Policy Director for VICPP said, “We are grateful for Delegate Aird’s leadership on this important legislation. This bill protects workers who deserve to have a pay stub to account for their hours and social security contributions. This is a great victory for workers in our Commonwealth.”

Guests will hear from the leadership team at Virginia Interfaith Center about priorities for the General Assembly, and learn about opportunities to get involved in social justice advocacy work.
